US Open Tennis 2010 Live Streaming Online In HD TV Day 11Not going to lie, today's US Open action was pretty predictable. Youzhny was just a little bit too steady for a big-hitting Stan Wawrinka in the first quarterfinal, and Nadal was just in a different league than his opponent Verdasco. The conditions were tough for everybody, but in the end, the winners just managed it a little bit better. It was good drama and pretty good tennis, all things considered, but it was all pretty much according to the script.
As for tomorrow, the women's semifinals are set - I think I like Wozniacki over Zvonareva, and I slightly - just slightly - favor Clijsters over Venus, but that one is much tougher to call. The other interesting match to look at is the doubles final - between the top doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan in addition to the India-Pakistan team of Bopanna and Qureshi. That's a great story, and whether or not they win (I don't think it's incredibly likely, but there's a chance) it's great attention for the sport of tennis and a great step in the direction of more normalized relations.
Day 10 Recap
Novak Djokovic reached his fourth consecutive US Open semi-final on Day 10, proving far too experienced and adaptable for the flashy Frenchman Gael Monfils. Djokovic handled the blustery conditions far better than his opponent, keeping Monfils off-balance by serving up a variety of slices, drop shots and a number of surprisingly successful excursions to the net. Although this tournament in New York represents Monfils’ best showing in a Grand Slam outside of Paris, the Frenchman showed that he still has a way to go in the maturity stakes before he can truly contend for a major.
Monfils, who complained after the match that the weather conditions were the worst he had ever played in, acknowledged himself that he was slow to adjust his game to the conditions, and that undoubtedly was a large part of the problem against Djokovic. Monfils’ day was best summed up by his attempt to jump off the ground and hit a shot through his legs. The shot finished halfway down the net.
Djokovic’s last 3 US Open campaigns have ended at the hands of one Roger Federer, and the third seed will again face his nemesis after the Swiss star produced a masterful display against Robin Soderling. Soderling had his chances during the match, troubling Federer on serve in the first set and going up a break in the third. But the second seed was ultra-efficient on his break point opportunities and ended up a straight sets winner. Soderling was never allowed to settle into a rhythm during the match, with Federer continually forcing the Swede onto the back foot. Judging by their form on Day 10, the Djokovic-Federer semi-final should be a beauty.
In the women’s tournament, Caroline Wozniacki moved one step closer towards successive US Open finals, defeating the pint-sized Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets. The top seed breezed through the first set, 6-2, but Cibulkova proved to be a tougher opponent in the second set. The Slovak made the running in the second set, and for the majority of the set Wozniacki appeared to be simply trying to keep pace. But Wozniacki’s greater composure on the big points, along with some timely backhand winners, allowed the Dane to wrap up the match 7-5 in the second.
Wozniacki will now play Wimbledon finalist Vera Zvonareva for a spot in Saturday’s final, after the Russian toppled Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi in straight sets. In an err0r-riddled match, Zvonareva showcased her recent improvements in focus and maturity, controlling the play against an erratic Kanepi. The Estonian finished the 2 set match with a whopping 60 unforced errors. Such a total is never going to allow one to truly compete for a match, let alone win it.
Intriguingly, the women’s semi-finals now pit a pair of two-time US Open champions in Williams and Clijsters against one another, as well as a pair of Grand Slam finalists, in Wozniacki and Zvonareva, who have never tasted the ultimate success. History suggests the champion will come from the winner of the Williams-Clijsters clash, but stranger things have happened.
